Lochinver Landscapes is the trading name of local photographer John Mccarthy. John grew up in Barrhead just south of Glasgow and at an early age showed a keen interest in drawing and photography. Combining these interests john studied Interior Design at Glasgow College of Building and Printing where he graduated in 1983. Shortly after, John moved to England and carved out a successful career in Retail Design and Contract Management before eventually setting up his own Design and Contracting Business based in the East Midlands. Throughout this time John’s passion for photographing the landscape, and in particular the Scottish Highlands, continued to grow. In 2008 john grabbed the chance to purchase a small vacant shop in Lochinver which was initially rented out. In 2010 John, his wife Jeanette and their border collies, sold up in the Midlands and moved to Lochinver to open up and run the gallery now known as Lochinver landscapes.
John’s career in design is evident in his work. Thoughtful composition, attention to colour and detail along with careful consideration of light and shade all combine in his images to capture the wild, stunning beauty of the area he now calls home
